This book took me a while to get through, about 7 days which is pretty long for me. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the book, I really think it’s because the chapters were so long. Per my Kindle, at my reading speed, the chapters were anywhere from 35-45 minutes long and I feel like they are usually around 8-15. This meant no, “one more chapter” because my brain thought that was way too long when there have been plenty of times when I’ve read 8 more 10-minute chapters with blurry vision. I don’t know, it was weird.
Any who, we have two sisters who went through a very traumatic event when they were teenagers, which feels like a huge understatement, then one of them is witness to another traumatic event in present day.
The current situation leads to an unraveling of the past and I think it was very well done. I loved the setting, the characters, and the plot. The banter between the sisters and dad was great. The way the author writes everything this family went through and gives you enough of each of the characters that you really for them, I definitely got emotional throughout. We get two points of view, the sisters, in both present and past tense.
There were some good twists that surprised me and didn’t feel like these far-fetched ideas.
I gave this book a 4/5 based on the plot and twists being worth the read. I would recommend if you are looking for a suspense, mystery, thriller book with a strong family torn apart then put back together type theme.
Favorite Quote: “Like a feral cat, she instinctively bristled against any domestication.”

SIDE NOTE: This is the first book I’ve read by this author; she also wrote Pretty Girls in 2015 that is on my TBR list.
